Interested in Volunteering?
We have lots of ways you can help! We’ve made it easy for you to let us know your interests. Here’s a link to our on line volunteer inquiry form. Tammy Moore, our volunteer coordinator, will contact you and discuss volunteer opportunities!
At the Shelter
Shelter Friends and the Josephine County Animal Shelter looks to the community and volunteers to help care for the many homeless, abandoned, owner surrender and sick animals that arrive at the Shelter. There are many volunteer opportunities available from walking dogs, feeding, cleaning and loving on the animals at the Shelter.
Unable to volunteer at the Shelter? There are many other opportunities to help. We are currently looking for volunteers to work adoption fairs.
Responsibilities may include setting up crates, walking dogs, showing dogs and cats to the public and breaking down crates and cleanup. We’d love to have you come and check out an event and see if this fun atmosphere is for you!
If you would like to help out, we hold our events regularly at PetCo, Grange Co-op and weather permitting, Washington Mutual downtown. A few hours on weekends with pet adoptions is an extremely rewarding volunteer opportunity! This is the animal’s relief from the Shelter and a chance to find its forever home. You can volunteer for dog or cat events.
We are always in need of help and ideas for fundraising. If you have experience as a fundraiser for non-profit organizations, or have just volunteered on fundraisers in the community, we can use your help. Our fundraisers throughout the year are crucial to the work we do and we would welcome help in organizing our events.
Posting Event Flyers
Print and coordinate the posting around town of our event flyers. We also like to put up flyers at veterinary clinics and pet stores featuring current adoptable dogs. We have brochures and brochure holders at business around town that need to be stocked.
We are always in need of volunteers who possess organizational and clerical skills such as data entry, filing, and record keeping.
As a non-profit, we watch our money carefully so we look to members of our community that can assist us with various legal and accounting tasks. Additionally we can always use help with printing and publications needs.
Fostering a Cat or Dog
The key to our success could be one home away. YOURS!
A strong foster program is so important to what we do and YOU could help. Foster situations typically don’t last a long time and each foster is different. You might get a few cute, cuddly kittens or a sweet shy kitty that needs to uncover its inner lap- warmer personality. We also have animals that may need an overnight stay until the Shelter opens and they can be transported. We need foster homes for dogs, too.
If you can’t offer a temporary home, you might know someone who can.
PLEASE spread the word!!
If you’d like to offer a kitty a little “home” time or know someone who possibly could, please, let us know.
